"For we know that in all things God works together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes." Romans 8:28
Hi my name is Grace, and I have been serving in Lima, Peru for the last 9 months. The Lord allowed me to start an English as a Foreign Language school here in Lima, and it is going great! There are now 5 teachers and over 100 students!
I have had the privilege of growing up always knowing, and believing in Jesus as my personal Savior. I have lived in Bullhead City, Arizona my entire life till I was 18. Then God took me to Austria for a year where I completed my first two semesters of Bible College. I hadn't ever left home before and after a whole year away I decided I was pretty much done with Europe for awhile.
I came back to Bullhead not intending on finishing Bible College. God supplied me with a great job when I got home teaching Abstinence Only Education in the public High Schools. What a great experience! Then the next year I taught Bully Busters where I again was in the public school teaching kids not to be bullies. Another wonderful time in my life. As I was looking through a Calvary Chapel Magazine I saw an advertisement for Calvary Chapel Bible College Jerusalem. Well from the moment I saw that I knew that I was going to go there.
So I saved my money and about 6 months later I was in Israel for my 3rd semester. Wow, now that was a life changing experience. I had culture shock, heart break, and a million other things. I was able to make lifetime friends, and the best thing of all I walked where Jesus walked. I came back home after that semester and worked at a domestic violence safe house. God showed me over and over His blessings in my life that I have so taken for granted by working there. Then after 8 months in the states...off to my last semester in Sydney with my mom. I was back in Bullhead for about a month the Lord then blessed me with the opportunity to help a family from my church move to their new house. So for about 2 1/2 months that is what I did. During this time the Lord continued to press the mission field on my heart and especially Israel. So I contacted For Zion's Sake which is a Christian Humanitarian Aid organization, and applied, and was accepted to serve as the director's secretary.
So September 11, 2005 I set off on this road to the Holy Land. I served there for 6 months, but I wasn't the Director's secretary I was translating for some Peruvian Jews that had just immigrated to Jerusalem. I started teaching English classes but I didn't really know what I was doing. I thought that because i knew English it would be easy to teach it, but it wasn't. I became wonderful friends with the Peruvian family and started praying about Peru.
In March 2006 I left Jerusalem because my visa had run out and my commitment had been completed. It was so hard for me to leave. I had made friends with a couple of Muslim families in the Old City of Jerusalem and I knew i would miss them. In leaving Israel I felt like I was leaving home. But I prayed that one day He would bring me back.
Upon return to Arizona I continued to pray about serving in Peru. I was in contact with the Pastor down there and everything was on track to go. A couple of days before i was to buy my ticket my pastor said that he didn't want me to go and not to buy my ticket. That was one of the hardest things to hear. There was really no explination given i just had to submit to submit and for me that was very challenging!
Even though I didn't want to stay the Lord gave me a peace in being there and provided me with a job to be a substitute teacher and to teach English as a Second Language at the Mohave Community College. A couple of months after that my boss from the school district asked me if I would like to teach Tobacco Prevention in all of the Elementary schools. YES! It was a great job and such a blessing to be able to share something so important to the kids.
Then in May 2007 I was finally on my way to Peru. First stop Israel as the church from Peru was going on a mission trip to Israel first. So I was able to spend 2 months in Israel before going to Peru. It was so great. I spent time with the Peruvian family and the Muslim family. I also was blessed to volunteer at the Christ Church in the Old City of Jerusalem. And got to see my friend Anya's wedding.
So that brings you up to date...I am here in Peru and will be here till April 30th. I will be going back to Arizona for a year to start a Christian English as a Second Language school. Please pray for this venture in faith. I am sure that God will bless it if it is his will.
God bless you thank you for your prayers and for sharing in my life.
